Skoda's first electric SUV, the Enyaq iV, is back on the market after a brief hiatus due to high demand and supply chain issues. The Czech automaker has announced that it is now accepting orders for the base model of the Enyaq iV, which starts at just $34,000 (29,990 euros) in Germany.
The Skoda Enyaq iV is based on the same platform as the Volkswagen ID.4 and Audi Q4 e-tron but offers a more spacious and practical interior, a longer range, and a lower price tag. It also features a distinctive design that blends Skoda's signature grille with sleek LED headlights and taillights, a coupe-like roofline, and a choice of 18- to 21-inch wheels.
The base model of the Skoda Enyaq iV comes with a single electric motor on the rear axle that produces 146 horsepower (109 kilowatts) and 162 pound-feet (220 newton-meters) of torque. It has a 55-kWh battery pack that can deliver up to 211 miles (340 kilometers) of range on the WLTP cycle. It can also charge up to 50 kW on a DC fast charger or 7.2 kW on an AC outlet.
If you want more power and range, you can opt for one of the higher trims of the Enyaq iV, which offer up to 302 horsepower (225 kilowatts) and 339 pound-feet (460 newton-meters) of torque with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, or up to 333 miles (535 kilometers) of range with a 77-kWh battery pack. The top-of-the-line Enyaq RS iV can sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 kph) in just 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 111 mph (180 kph).
The Skoda Enyaq iV also boasts a spacious and comfortable cabin that can accommodate up to five passengers and their luggage. The trunk has a capacity of 21 cubic feet (585 liters), which can be expanded to 55 cubic feet (1,575 liters) by folding the rear seats. The dashboard features a digital instrument cluster and a 10- or 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Skoda's own voice assistant named Laura.
The Enyaq iV also comes with a host of safety and driver assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, head-up display, and more. Some of these features are optional or only available on higher trims.
The Enyaq iV is one of the most affordable and attractive electric SUVs on the market right now, and it's no wonder that it has been selling like hotcakes since its launch last year. Skoda says it has already delivered more than 40,000 units of the Enyaq iV worldwide and expects to sell another 100,000 units this year.
If you're interested in getting your hands on one of these electric beauties, you'll have to act fast, as Skoda warns that the delivery time for new orders is currently around six months. You can order your Enyaq iV online or at your nearest Skoda dealer.
The Skoda Enyaq iV is currently only available in Europe, but Skoda plans to expand its availability to other markets in the future. The US is not among them, unfortunately, as Skoda does not sell any of its vehicles here. However, you can always check out its cousins from, Volkswagen and Audi if you're looking for a similar electric SUV experience.
The Skoda Enyaq iV is a great example of how electric vehicles can be affordable, practical, and fun to drive. But how does it perform on the road? Let's find out.
Performance and handling
The Skoda Enyaq iV may not be as fast or fun as some electric cars, but it's a safe and predictable car to drive. The rear-wheel-drive models have a good balance of grip and agility, while the all-wheel-drive 80x adds more traction and stability. The steering is light and accurate but not very engaging.
The Enyaq iV has plenty of punch for overtaking and merging, thanks to its instant electric torque. The 80 model can hit 62 mph (100 kph) in 8.5 seconds, while the 80x can do it in 6.9 seconds. The top speed is limited to 99 mph (160 kph) for all models.
The Enyaq iV has several driving modes to choose from: Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport, and Individual. Eco mode reduces the power output and limits the air conditioning to maximize the range, while Sport mode sharpens the throttle response and tightens the suspension. Individual mode lets you customize various settings to your liking.
The Enyaq iV also has a regenerative braking system that recovers energy when you lift off the accelerator or brake. You can adjust the level of regen using the paddles behind the steering wheel or let the car decide for you based on traffic and road conditions.
Ride and comfort
The Enyaq iV is a comfortable car for long journeys, thanks to its spacious cabin, supportive seats, and quiet operation. The wind and road noise are well suppressed, even with the roof down on the convertible model.
However, the ride quality could be better, especially on models with larger wheels. The Enyaq iV tends to thump over potholes and bumps and can feel jittery on rough surfaces. The suspension is also on the firm side, which can make the car feel unsettled on twisty roads.
The Enyaq iV could benefit from a more sophisticated adaptive suspension system that could smooth out the ride and improve the handling. However, this would add more weight and cost to the car.
Verdict
The Skoda Enyaq iV is a compelling electric SUV that offers a lot of value for money. It has a spacious and practical interior, a long-range, a low price tag, and a distinctive design. It also has a host of safety and driver assistance features, as well as Skoda's own voice assistant named Laura.
The Enyaq iV is not perfect, though. It could have better ride quality, more engaging handling, and more customization options for the roof and interior colors. It's also not available in some markets, such as the US.
However, these are minor flaws that don't detract from the overall appeal of the Enyaq iV. If you're looking for an affordable and attractive electric SUV that can handle your daily needs and occasional adventures, you should definitely check out the Skoda Enyaq iV.
